What is REA?

REA (Reverse Engineer Anything) is an MCP server plus workflow instructions for inspecting software without its source: native binaries via Hopper, Ghidra or IDA, JavaScript and Electron apps, .NET assemblies, websites, WASM and SQLite files. Analysis runs locally and results include the evidence behind them. One setup command registers it with Claude Code and other agents.

Why use REA?

  • npx rea-agents setup registers the MCP server and matching instructions for Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI and more, backing up existing config first.
  • Analysis runs locally; JavaScript and Electron apps can be analysed without extra tools.
  • The same workflows are available from the terminal (rea CLI) for scripting.

Limitations

  • Native binary analysis needs Hopper, Ghidra or IDA installed.
  • Requires a recent Node.js: 22.19+, 24.11+ or 26+.
  • Reverse-engineering third-party software can breach its licence terms: check what you are allowed to analyse first.
